Morton Simmonds Educational Scholarship

About the Award

The Morton Simmonds Educational Scholarship was created to support and encourage African Nova Scotian and Indigenous students enrolled in the Criminal Justice Diploma Program at Nova Scotia Community College. Named in honour of Mr. Morton Simmonds, the first African Nova Scotian Correctional Officer in Atlantic Canada, this award is made possible through the support of the Nova Scotia Department of Justice.
 

Eligibility

  • Program Delivery - All
  • Eligible Campuses - All campuses where eligible programs are offered
  • Year of Study - Year 1, Year 2
  • Eligible Programs – Criminal Justice
  • Good Academic Standing
  • Students must self-identify as African Nova Scotian and/or Indigenous
  • This award will remain open until the desired number of qualified applicants has been met, as determined by NSCC's Student Awards office.
 

Students Must Demonstrate

  • Work history relating to a profession in Criminal Justice
  • Strong work ethic and a commitment to extracurricular activities and/or community service
  • Commitment to the chosen field/career

This award is renewable for students who are enrolled in multi-year programs based on maintaining an 80% average each term.
